Sudan: A Visual Art Narrative | An Exhibition of Pioneer Artists

This landmark exhibition traced the evolution of Sudan’s modern visual arts movement, situating it within the country’s long and complex artistic history.  Bringing together works by Osman Waqialla, Ibrahim El Salahi, Ahmed Shibrain, Kamala Ibrahim Ishag, Tagelsir Ahmed, Hassan El Hadi, Hussein Shariffe, Mohamed Ahmed Abdalla Abbaro, Amir Nour, and Omar Khairy, among others, the exhibition celebrated their enduring impact on Sudan’s artistic landscape and their contributions to the broader narrative of African modernism. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the exhibition offered a rare glimpse into this remarkable legacy and the spirit of innovation that continues to define Sudanese art.

Almas Art Foundation is proud to have presented this exhibition as a tribute to Sudan’s artists — those who laid the foundations of modern art in the region and those whose voices are still emerging from its rich and resilient cultural fabric.

The publication that accompanied this exhibition can be bought from our online store or in person at our London exhibition space.
